Skin Deep
Most of us suffer from dry skin but especially this time of year when the cold air is nipping at your skin. I, for one, hate having dry skin or dry lips and will spend every dime trying new products that work best.
As of late my lips have been neglected as I've trusted the store bought chapstick and exfoliatiants with no results. I kept thinking something is up if not a one of these products actually remedy the issue. Plus, I'm spending way too much on chapstick for every single nook and cranny I can hide one in. It's not working!
Anyone who knows me, knows I apply lotion like it's going out of style. I'm known for being obsessed with lotions however I still hadn't found one that worked superior to others. I just kept buying the same coconut oil based lotion or anything that said shea butter or cocoa butter on it, cuz that had to be good enough, right? Well I was wrong, so I decided to do research on why I've tried so many products on the market but none seem to actually work. I discovered that it's deeper than the surface. Most skin creams do not actually provide nourishment to the cells that make skin feel and look healthy.
Example 1: Standard petroleum based products. Likely the inexpensive greasy products you purchase thinking because they're thick in texture they will aid well in cold weather. Wrong. It sits on top of your skin and never gets to an area to provide deep moisturizing benefits. This is would be a protective layer to lock in moisture rather than add moisture.
Example 2: Typical skin creams and lotions we repeatedly purchase . These are also useless to your skins overall health. They are better at absorbing into your skin but do not penetrate the skin cells offering the necessary nourishment. Not to mention they're often filled with terrible ingredients.
Example 3: Vitamin serums and oil. Best options because they go right into the skin and skin cells offering you full spectrum of moisturizing nourishment. Long lasting moisture for the health of your skin!
Keep in mind some oils are low absorbancy (olive oil, coconut oil, macadamia oil) so they will leave you feeling oily longer than high absorbancy oils such as rose hip, vitamin e, camelia seed and apricot kernel oils.
I'm realizing there is a reason the average skin care product is so inexpensive. They know it's not working but they want you to keep buying it! The more expensive oils and serums are worth it because in the long run they are actually healing the problem rather than masking it. Plus you won't have to keep reapplying lotions and chapstick! So, splurge on yourself sis!
Here's a look at a few of my favorite products for the season
Try a skin oil serum this winter in place of constantly applying lotions and creams and watch the health of your skin improve. Wishing you all the glow XoXo
