Say it Loud...
Black History Month is coming to a close. . . so the world will stop celebrating. The simple world of people who think black history month is just another sore reminder of inequality in America. As if Black History Month recognizing separation is really the issue we're all cringing over in 2017. I don't want to make this a political post but I've always had a problem with biting my tongue...
After having a conversation with someone who randomly shared their opinion on the insignificance of black history month and hearing someone be "hushed" for correcting ignorance on cultural appropriation (all in the same week), I am once again reminded of the importance OF beING heard!
In a perfect world, we would not need to separate the celebration of people based on a color of skin or a short month. Unfortunately we do not live in that world yet. However, every day is a chance to spread awareness, gain knowledge/understanding and hopefully educate others so we can stop the ignorance. I am proud to be apart of a generation that continues the fight against the systems of inequality and continues to evoke a sense of pride in the young people. Remember that Black History did not begin with the slave ship and does not end on Feb 28th. We ARE Black History!
