The Definition of Red: Red is powerful, assertive and intense; according to Merriam-Webster, it is “a color whose hue resembles that of blood or of the ruby.” Featuring thirteen large-scale portraits of Ronis, a dark-skinned South Sudanese model, the series confronts viewers with striking images, each capturing the bold beauty of red contrasted against dark skin to explore love, power, war and religion.
With one week left to view the Definition of Red exhibition (Feb 16 - March 16) I wanted to take time to share with how excited I am about this! I was beyond thrilled to be apart of this project with my friend and business partner, Bre’Ann White, for her first solo art exhibition! It was truly a pleasure to assist on developing the looks along side my friend and co-stylist Martine. To see this entire vision come to life at the grand opening on Feb 16th filled me with such pride and joy! I came to support my friend but to also see what we created together, made the night special and memorable to say the least.
I wanted to with you all some of the behind the scenes of this project as well as invite you to view it yourself in person at Playground Detroit. The exhibition ends March 16th but there is even a soul food dinner being held in the gallery this Sunday (sorry I’m so late)! In case you can’t make it to see in person, take a look and be sure to order your prints online here!
Special thanks to everyone who was a part of this! xoxo
